We hate to be the bearer of unpleasant news, but a world without any unwanted insects or other critters is an impossibility. They will simply always be around, and are an important part of our ecosystem anyway. So no matter what we do, occasional encounters with an unwanted intruders are inevitable.
On the other hand, you definitely don’t want to just accept that pests will always be a problem. They shouldn’t be, and we should all be familiar with the signs of an actual pest infestation, which of course is a bit different from just an occasional uninvited guest.
Strange smells. Most of us don’t think about how bugs smells, but some of them actually do give off an odor when present in colonies! Roaches, for example, will lend a musty smell to the infested area. If you start to smell something strange around the house, a pest infestation is one possibility you should rule out.
Droppings. Like any other creature, roaches, termites, bed bugs, and ants do leave behind droppings. You might notice something that looks like coffee grounds scattered around your pantry, bathroom, floor, and other areas of your home.
Evidence of nesting. Depending upon the type of pest infestation, you might notice webs or egg sacs throughout your home. Check in corners, hidden areas, and underneath furniture for signs of nesting. Just one egg sac can hatch into hundreds of new insects! Rodent nests are often more noticeable, as rats and mice will gather materials from around your home.
Damage. Insects aren’t just gross and annoying; some of them can do serious damage to your home. Termites and carpenter ants will burrow into the wood structures of your home, and leave behind piles of sawdust as they do their damage.
If you notice any of these signs of a pest infestation, the problem has already developed significantly. It’s time to give us a call, and seek out professional pest control to quickly eradicate the problem.
