Most of us enjoy the summer season, but it’s also bug season. Due to the warmer weather, many insects are out and about, feeding and reproducing enthusiastically. That means your home is more likely to be invaded by a swarm of unwelcome guests. You’re probably interested in preventing pest infestations, so just follow these five tips all summer and hopefully you won’t have a problem.
Take out the trash each night. Trash should be stored in an airtight bin, preferably outside of your home (or at least in the garage). All manner of pests, including rodents and insects, will otherwise be attracted to your kitchen each night while you sleep.
Store food wisely. The cardboard that many food companies use to package their products is really not a deterrant to a determined rat or insect. In fact, some bugs like silverfish actually enjoy munching through paper. Invest in a good plastic food storage system, complete with airtight lids, and use those for cereals, crackers, pastas, and other foods. When you aren’t supplying pest with a steady food supply, they’re unlikely to set up residence in your home.
Fix water leaks and standing water. Aside from food, a steady supply of water is the main reason rodents and insects choose a place to live. Fix any dripping pipes, unclog your gutters, and address landscaping issues that lead to standing water.
Utilize pest-repelling scents. You might enjoy fresh scents around the home anyway, as most people do. Since you’re going to use them, consider mint, citrus, lavender, or tea tree oil. These scents actually repel many vermin, which might seem odd because they smell great to us!
Consider a cleaning service. The cleaner you keep your home, the less likely you are to suffer a pest infestation. But most of us stay too busy to keep up with regular household chores like vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen, and sweeping up crumbs. Regular services by MaidPro of Temecula mean you enjoy your home more…. and insects or mice enjoy it less! Just give them a call at (951) 506-6100 to get on their regular service list.
And if you do notice a little invading pest or two, remember that it can happen to anyone. Just give us a call right away, and we’ll come out to help you get rid of your pests.
